The North Toledo Bend Entrance Station has been designed as a “Lantern in the Woods” to welcome visitors as they meander through the pine trees down to the Toledo Bend Reservoir at the state park. The park rangers, who staff the building, enjoy the abundance of natural light provided by the glass box and the shade given by the large overhang. The transparent box designates the gateway to the rest of the park for the visitors while the administration portion of the station has been purposefully designed as a discreet interpretation of the cabins throughout the park. As day turns to night, the station gradually illuminates and becomes a visible beacon for those entering the park. The materials and color palette have been selected to fit into the contextual surrounding blending with nature resulting in a modern cabin in the woods.
